How to Calibrate Your Home Theater Using : A Quick Guide
Harman Kardons EzSet remote makes it possible to quickly and accurately set an AVRs output levels without the use of a sound-pressure meter.
Step 1: Make certain that all speaker positions have been properly configured for their large, small or none settings. Step 2: Adjust the master volume to 15dB If, after completing the procedure, you find . that the overall system volume level seems low, you may repeat the procedure using a slightly higher master volume level. However, in order to avoid the risk of damaging your hearing or your equipment, do not, under any circumstances, exceed a master volume of 0dB. Step 3: Set the surround sound mode to Pro Logic . Step 4: While seated in the listening position that will be used most often, hold the EzSet remote at arms length, making sure that it is pointed at the receiver, and tilted upward at a 45-degree angle. Make sure that the sensor microphone at the top of the remote is not covered. Step 5: Press and hold the SPL Indicator Select button for three seconds. Release the button when the SPL indicator stops flashing and you hear the test tone from the front left speaker. Step 6: At this point, the EzSet circuitry takes over, adjusting the output level of each channel so that, when the process is complete, all levels will be equal based on the listening position used. During the adjustment process you will see the location of the channel position being adjusted on both the on-screen display (if connected) and in the front-panel information display, alternating with a readout of the output setting relative to the reference volume level. While the level is changing, the Program/SPL Indicator on the remote will change colors to reflect the output level in relation to the reference. A red indication shows that the level is too high, while an amber indication shows that the level is too low. When the indicator is green, the level is correct and the test noise will move on to the next channel. After the test noise has circulated through each channel one time, the test noise will again be sent to each channel to verify the settings. After two complete circulations of the test tone, the settings are set and the receiver will return to normal operation. Output levels can also be set manually, either to set them to a specific level with an SPL meter, or to fine-tune to the levels obtained by the EzSet remote.
